Stromynka Metro Station – Competition
area:
year: 2017
city: Москва

The project has been developed by Blank Architects with my direct participation as a leading architect.

"Once upon a time…" These were the first words that came to our minds when we opened the competition brief. After visiting the site and delving into research on the surrounded areas we found the Stromynka and Sokolniki region to be a blend of various stories and breathtaking nature that smoothly changes from a "city park" to a wild forest.

We read about: The Sokolniki Story, the Romanov family story and how the Rurik family story begins, the legend of Tsar Ivan Grozny and the Shiryaevo pole, tales about love between a Prince and peasant girls, about the mysterious Moscow prince Ivan Krasivy's death and finally about hunting in the wilds of Sokolniki park.

We want to have a metro station that teaches about the location's story. Each of our graphic designs is the legend of Stromynka and Sokolniki park. Additionally, it will explain what kind of animals, types of greenery and ecosystems we can find in the nearby park. Our goal is for the legends and history of the park to linger in the minds of the visitor long after they have left. We want to entice passengers to come back and perhaps to open a book that will explain more about the nature in this area or Moscow's legends.
